Every time when trying to boot from CD, the computer keeps popping up a “No boot sector installed” error message? Do you want to start up the computer properly as you like? Well, I think this is the eager hope of every PC users, but inevitably get various unknown startup error messages. But why do you get such a computer startup error message and how to get rid of the annoying “No boot sector installed” message?
After getting the “No boot sector installed” message, restart the computer and simply place the operating system installation CD in the drive and reboot the computer. Watch for the message “press any key to boot from CD” then press a key (usually, I use the space bar). However, if you do not get this message, you will need to change the boot options in the BIOS settings to make sure it looks to the CD/DVD drive first. Then, you can select the “Repair” button to completely scan through the whole system and repair all existing errors. But you have to be aware that this method will erase some of your personal files/folders and programs; hence, it is highly recommended that you have to make a backup first before taking this job.
If the above solution does not work, you can directly apply the Last Known Good Configuration. This option helps you to quickly get back your computer to the last status on which it is running properly without the “No boot sector installed” error message. To do this, you can directly perform the below steps:
* Restart the computer.
* When you see a screen saying that “Please select the operating system to start” message, press F8.
* When you are on the Windows Advanced Option Menu list, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER to continue.
* Then, follow the on-screen prompts to finish this process.
By the way, you can perform a system restore. If you are unable to boot from CD after performing the Last Known Good Configuration and still get the “No boot sector installed” error message, you may try performing a system restore from Windows Recovery Enviornment to get the computer to an earlier date. A simple system restore job always helps to quickly get back the computer quickly when something goes wrong, but sometimes you make lose some of your important data. Follow these steps to go:
* Insert the installation disc and restart the computer.
* If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
* Choose the language settings, and then click “Next” to continue.
* Click Repair your computer.
*Then, you should select the operating system you want to repair, and click “Next” to go.
*On the System Recovery Options menu, click System restore and select the date on which the computer was working fine.
By the way, to always start up or run a computer without errors like “No boot sector installed” at PC startup, you need to run windows updates regularly to make sure that your computers security and windows files are updated to the latest ones. Lots of computer users around me don’t really bother updating their computers security and windows files; hence, they usually end up getting a slow running computer with many other errors. Sometimes, an update of the Windows helps to fix some bugs within the system to make it run properly.
After the above steps, you still need to fix Windows registry errors. If you are like other Microsoft Windows users, you have probably experienced problems related to registry errors when getting the “No boot sector installed” error messages. Registry is usually regarded as the main component of the Windows-based operating system to store all settings & options for the proper running of the computer and programs installed on the PC. A registry error usually leads to decreased performance and frequent crashes, annoying PC startup/shutdown errors, application errors and lockups of your system, etc. So after the above steps, you should immediately detect & fix all errors insides your Windows registry database. With an error-free registry, you will be able to always enjoy a computer without problems.
By directly following the above instructions, you can troubleshoot the “No boot sector installed” startup error message and deal with it on your own. By the way, if the error has something to do with the Windows registry, do not manually edit or fix it. Otherwise, more unknown errors will come on the neck of another.
